ROTARY CARPENTER VALLEY HIKE

Under the arch of a stunning fall afternoon,  20 lucky souls walked through the Carpenter Valley gate and onto the land set to be purchased by the Truckee Donner Land Trust.  This valley, which is privately owned, has been off limits to the public for over a century.  It is relatively untouched and presents an inspiring example of the beautiful landscapes we are blessed to have close at hand…mountain meadows, glistening streams and abundant flora.

If you were unable to join in this hike, we’ll check the Land Trust’s calendar next year and see if we can participate in another docent led tour.

As the president of the club there are moments that fill me with pride and joy.  Yesterday was one of those. It was fantastic to see multiple generations of community members gathered under one roof to celebrate Thanksgiving.  Through the Club's fines, we were able to raise $640 for the seniors.  This year, these dollars will have a direct impact to residents of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments.

Yesterday, I was approached by Jesse, aka Clarence, who had a special request.  Clarence asked if there was a way that Rotary would be able to provide gift cards for food at Safeway so they could have tri-tip steak for this year's holiday diner. Clarence informed me that the residents of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments live on an average of $850/mo. and that items like meat are rarely part of their menu.  Clarence has arranged for the Ritz Carlton staff to come to the complex and prepare an elaborate meal for the residents.  At the end of yesterday's meeting, I asked Clarence how much she thought she would need to for the dinner and she said $400 would be plenty.  I said we would be happy to do this.  Art was able to deliver the Safeway gift card to her apartment. Clarence sent me this email last night,

Jason, how do I thank you...you have no idea what those gift cards mean to make this holiday season .. I am so humbled by what you did today...wow talk about being surprised...again thank you.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and I wanted you all to know that you have made Clarence very happy.
Sincerely,
Jason

On September 18th, the Rotary Club of Truckee in partnership with Trout Unlimited participated in the Great Sierra River Cleanup.  The group collected trash along the river and roadway adjacent to the river protecting wildlife and river habitat.

Rotary Club of Truckee is cleaning up the Truckee River on September 17 as part of the Great Sierra River Cleanup with Trout Unlimited.

The Great Sierra Cleanup is happening on the 17th of September in Truckee, California. The Truckee River Chapter needs your help for this cleanup! We are meeting at 9 am in the dirt parking lot next to the Highway 80 Bridge at the Hirschdale exit 194. Half the group will be removing trash this section while the other half will head to the stateline to clean up the lower part of the Truckee River. Bring work clothes and a water bottle. You can be the difference in keeping the Truckee in pristene shape! Contact Sam Sedillo: ssedillo@tu.org if you have any questions.
