Oh yes the annual Kids Fishing Derby. This event is free to all children 12 and under. It will be held at the Cold Stream Pond behind Donner State Memorial Park. This event is jointly sponsored by the Nevada County Fish and Game and the Truckee Noon Rotary Club. Come on down and teach your kids to lie like a real fisherman. Where 5" becomes 18". Where one fish becomes 20. Don't know how to fish yourself? Ah no problem "experts" will be on hand to help out. Food and soft drinks will be available, should you not catch a fish. No boats allowed please. Local sportsman and angler Bob Tilton founded the event 29 years ago with the vision to draw children to a sport they could pursue for a lifetime. He started the derby to give youth an option for healthy recreation while keeping them out of trouble.“My goal was to get kids hooked on fishing, not on drugs,” Tilton said. “If we can get kids started in the right direction, we can make a difference. There’s so much water around the area, it would be a shame for kids not to fish.” Thanks to Ray Butler for getting this info to us and for continuing to coordinate our efforts with the State Parks as well as California Dept. of Fish and Game. This is a free event. It is limited to children under the age of 12. Older kids are not eligible for prizes. PLEASE SUPPORT OUR OUTSTANDING SPONSOR Mountain Hardware and Sports ACE in Truckee. More details, fishing gear, etc are available at the store. Directions: Take the road that runs between the hotel and the Chevron gas station. The fishing pond is on the right side of the road, about 1/2 mile up the road. Map of location

The Loyalton Lamb Feed. . . If you like lamb it's all you can eat If you don't like Lamb there is chicken. If you like great fellowship...It's all the friends you can ask for and non-club members are more than welcome. The cost (at the park) is $25 per person. This is a big fund raiser for the Loyalton Rotoary Club, and a great time for all. It truly is all the lamb chops you can eat! This is also a great event for non-members - everyone is invited. Our club also does a bike ride, which is about 28 miles but not too bad...just a long time in the saddle - mountain bikes recommended. Bike Riders can ride the bus back to town and we will bring the bikes back. For those who want to ride the bus it will leave from the Community Center, South side lot. If riding the bus we usually give about $5 tip per head for the driver. The bike ride will leave from a new spot due to the dam work at Stampede Reservoir. IF TAKING THE BUS --- Meet at the South Community Center parking lot at 4:30 PM IF RIDING YOUR BIKE --- Meet at the Hirschdale off ramp at 3 pm IMPORTANT WHEN REGISTERING On-line ! In the comments section indicate whether you are going on the "Bus" or "Bike" Please bring cash for the $25. |

Our regular lunch meeting will be moved to Martis Camp Family Barn. We will host seniors from Sierra Senior Services for a Thanksgiving feast. As their hosts and hostesses, I recommend arriving early, greeting the seniors as they arrive and inviting them to sit with you. The seniors tend to cluster and sit together otherwise. If there is table without a seated senior form Sierra Senior services, and only Rotarians, the whole table will be fined heavily. All fines from this event will be donated to Sierra Senior Services. Please sign up so we have a head count for seating and catering. Gobble Gobble! |
