Rotarians walk back in time.

On Friday, August 4th, Ted Owens lead a group of hardy souls on The Summit Canyon Hike.  For me, this was the first time I had walked this trail in my 27 years in

Truckee.  We began at the Old Ski Academy on Donner Pass off of Highway 40 and hiked down canyon to the Summit Canyon parking area.  During the hike, we heard much of the history of this trail including the first successful wagon team that crossed here, the Murphy, Townsend, Stephens Party in 1844, the Donner Party two years later, the building of the Transcontinental Railroad and the Dutch Flat Donner Lake Wagon Road, the Lincoln Highway and the building of Highway 40.  Fortunately, Jerry was there to keep Ted honest and accurate as we know he is prone to exaggerate.

It was a wonder hike and opportunity to chat with everyone. If you have an event that you would like to share as part of a Fellowship event, let me know and we will make it happen.

Thank you Ted for an awesome tour!
